When it comes to turning an idea into an end product, we always expected that the most challenging part was going to be the development phase.

In reality, for www.Batamo.com , our main stumbling block was coming up with a name which was not already registered as a domain (dot com).

In fact, over a few weeks, we quickly came to the realisation that basically every word in the English dictionary was already registered. That is absolutely amazing considering that there are over 600,000 words in the English language. So, as I'd imagine many other new website designers resort to, we had to find a word which was catchy enough to be easily remembered but at the same time, one that had no meaning what so ever.

So, using the first two letters of our surnames, batamO bagan. Let me guess: you are now wondering what our surnames could be

I could tell you, but that would be too easy. Maybe we might set up a treasure hunt system on batamo.com and see how many people can find the answer.

Sorry, getting back to the topic: once we found a name which was not commonly used (unless you live in or are going to Africa where there is a town called Batamo), we felt a little at ease as we were able to focus on other, hopefully less challenging, aspects of launching a website.

By the way, there is some good news: apparently each year 25000 words are added to the English language. So, if you are quick enough, you might be able to register one of them before someone else does. If that fails, maybe try using words from another language. ?
