The Price is Right.... or is It?
One of the hardest things to do, is to price your product for sale. You can do all the formulas, the overhead, the cost of materials, and your labor, but in the end the market really decides how much your product will sell for.
If you are going to sell products, such as crafts and handmade items, the best way, is to look to the internet for some answers.
Ebay is one of the largest markets on the internet with Amazon closing in behind. Go, to these sites, and put your product into the search field and see what comes up. You will be able to get an idea of how many of your type of products are on the market, and how much the sellers are wanting for their product. Look at some of their descriptions and pictures, and figure out how you could do it better for your own product.
You can also search the "completed sales" to see how much the product sold for. If there are pages and pages of this product, then the market may be flooded, and you will need t
o add something to your product or make it a bit different in order to attract customers. Otherwise, there is just too much competition.
Searching on these sites, is also a good way to see what is popular, and the price tag attached to these products. Could you make yours differently?.. could you advertise it for a different use? Could you add other products to this, and create a "package deal"..
There will always be a way to promote your products and get the best price. By doing your research first, you at least have an idea of what customers are willing to pay for an item, or how popular it is. It is also a great way to research new ideas.
When selling products online, make sure your price is competitive, and you have great pictures. Pictures are worth a thousand words on the internet.
Write great descriptions of your product, and offer some goodies, such as free shipping on a certain amount of order, or sales coupons.. customers love that.. The internet is a great tool for business, and with more and more people saying NO to commuting to work, and working from home, then an Online Store could be the answer for you.
