The Three Elements of Online Scams

There is an interesting book on investment fraud that I recently started to read, Greed, by Deborah Thompson, published by Viking 1997. Deborah Thompson says, "

the offer is. If you see this technique being used in a business you are interested in, disregard the urgency. Take your time to find out what the business is about. Remember if you go back to it later, it will still be there. Look at what the business plan is and whether it is based solely on recruitment. If it doesn't offer any specific information, don't pay first and find out later. A legitimate business can and will tell you exactly how you will be paid and what you are being paid for before you pay them anything.

The Ego technique can also be applied to online businesses. Many of them promise big rewards of money and status. The fact that money and power seem to go together is played to attract your need for both. You may see the founder claiming to be a genius for creating such an innovative business idea or even arrogance. The implied idea is that you are smart enough to be one of the fortunate people to get in on the business. This is just a sales technique; try to remember that intelligent people always research a business before they commit money to it. Don't let this technique pressure you.

Greed is the final technique that catches most people who are seeking income. That is why many of the most deceitful online businesses make so much money from innocent people looking for online work. The fact is most of the money made is from people who pay the sign up fee and never make a dime thereafter. Real businesses require some work and take some time and effort. The scams tell you that you're going to be rich in a matter of hours or days. They flash pictures of cash, cars, houses and jewelry on their introduction pages. They focus on what you wish you had in their text. To synch the deal, they offer you testimonials from a couple of people that have made it big by joining their "business". It's hard to resist when you see an "actual" bank statement showing all those deposits. Just remember, that is one statement. Real businesses can give you a statement of an average member's earnings and will not try to mislead you.

These are things we all have to keep in mind when we are searching for a way to make money on the Internet and of course, they apply to investing on the Internet as well. Rather than throw money away to these nowhere scams, look at the legitimate ways to make an income and expect that it will require some time and effort.
